Nathan had been eagerly looking forward to his trip to Ramla Bay, located in the northern part of the beautiful island of Gozo, for weeks. He had heard so much about the pristine beach and its clear turquoise waters. However, when he arrived in March, he was disappointed to find that there were not a lot of people there, but there was still a lot of litter. Nathan couldn’t believe the amount of garbage scattered around the beach. The sand was covered in plastic bags, empty bottles, and cigarette butts. He felt like the beach was crying out for help, as if it were a living entity that was being choked by the pollution. So, Nathan decided to use his voice and pretend to be the beach. At the end he shouted, “I am your beach not your ash tray!”

After a rogue fire had the destroyed all the plants in the area, nature started fighting her way back and in a few days you could already see green shoots sprouted amongst the burned blackened plants.

As we were walking in the countryside, we were caught by an amazing sight of tens of butterflies flying around this flowery bush. It is a quite a rare sight nowadays to see a butterfly due to lack of green areas in the city or village so seeing tens altogether was quite a blessing. Butterflies are great for plants because their bodies collect pollen and carry it to other plants. This helps fruits, vegetables and flowers to produce new seeds. This little fellow was so busy doing his job that he wasn’t bothered by the interruption at all.

As we were walking by the sea, we met this lovely little fellow. He was quite shy though and was difficult to get him to pose. It is amazing how he blends in with his habitat.

You ride the bike to reduce pollution. You ride the bike to exercise. You ride the bike because it’s fun. But the real reason is that while everyone is stuck in a huge line of traffic, the bicycle rider passes by undisturbed. Just as they say … Slow but sure wins the race!

This is how traditional and old buildings are being buried among high modern buildings. Old houses, which were so typical of the Maltese village are being pulled down and replaced by huge apartments reaching for the sky. Even the beautiful Maltese stone is being replaced by the dull concrete bricks. Such a pity!

A no-longer-so-new kind of tree … a new alien species that we can’t seem to be able to get rid of any time soon. The Greed Tree. Soon there will be more of the Greed Tree than the Natural Trees.

Many times, we find what is called accidental or unintentional litter, which usually falls from full up trash can, collection vehicles and pickup trucks or trash that is blown away by the wind. But this is surely not accidental. No one like to find trash at his door but it has to start with us – to dispose of trash properly.
