Caption: As part of the Ekoday activities held at our school on the 15th of March 2018, we invited a local artist forming part of the band Tribali. Students, accompanied by parents, brought with them used plastic and metal containers to re-use them as musical instruments- shakers and bongos. Peter Paul Galea, the musician, assisted by Simon Curmi an official from Wasterserv, conducted a percussion session where students enthusiastically played their musical instruments forming harmony from scrap material. No matter the value of their instruments, the atmosphere created was fantastic!! May more people find creative ways to re-use waste.

Caption: On the 15th of March 2018, our school organised an EkoDay to raise awareness re-waste management. A WasteServ official gave an informative presentation to both students and parents how to reduce, re-use and recycle waste to protect the environment. For example, parents together with students can prepare school lunches in lunch boxes instead of paper or plastic bags. Although this is just one small action, it will certainly have a large impact on waste minimisation eventually reducing landfill use.

It looks like the toy truck ended up in the middle of a field because a family wanted to get rid of it. This mentality of ‘out of sight, out of mind’ is a major problem in our country. By throwing out unwanted stuff where you are not able to see them anymore, it does not mean that they will vanish and your problem is solved. Hence, in order to improve such a way of thinking, we should promote the concept of re-using goods. In this case, the toy truck could have been re-used by another child either by selling it or donating it to charities.
