It is never a dull moment walking along the countryside! Unfortunately it was the ‘carpenter’s’ turn to litter this rural road. Such litter can easily be taken to Civic Amenity Sites which are found in several places around the island.

Each litter item which you generate contributes to your litter footprint, so dispose of unwanted items wisely. For example, old car supplies should not be throw away outside but taken to a Civic Amenity Site: by reusing or recycling them, we save on raw materials and energy.

The students were encouraged to use recycling material to build their carnival costume. A competition amongst all the classes (40 classes in) was organised in the main school hall. Unfortunately I cannot upload other photos. Sorry, but this webpage is very limited.

Bejn l-Imnajdra u Ħaġar Qim hemm passaġġ iffrekwentat minn Maltin u turisti. Dan il-passaġġ huwa xi ftit perikoluż minħabba li qiegħed f’ livell aktar għoli mil-bqija tal-art tal-madwar, għalhekk huwa faċli li t- tfal jaqgħu fil-ġenb tiegħu kif wieħed jista’ jara fir-ritratt. Nissuġġerixxi li l-ġnub jimtlew bil-ħamrija biex jieħu l-istess livell u fl-istess ħin jistgħu jitħawwlu xi pjanti, b’ hekk ikunu qed isebbħu l-ambjent.

Refocus and reduce….No to Junk Mail!

We wrote this article to spread the word about the worrying data we collected about the local Junk Mail situation during our Litter-Less research. We managed to enroll 9 families in our school community and they agreed to keep the junk mail they received over a period of two months. We then weighed that mail and calculated the amount the families would have collected over a year. We also estimated how much junk mail would have been collected if we had to multiply the results to the number of dwellings in Malta. Moreover we estimated the number of trees that would have to be cut down to create all that paper that will end up as Junk Mail. The results we obtained were mind blowing and all this after the massive ‘Sort it out’ campaign. Are we really sorting it out?

Shame on us shows a snap shop of a too common situation in our countryside where irresponsible individuals just dump the waste that they do not want without realizing that damage that they are causing. Photo taken limits of Siggiewi.

This photo was taken in the countryside close to Siggiewi. I was surprised to find this type of waste since it was not common trash but rather good home stuff like shoes and cake tins. It seems that someone was clearing a house and just dumped all its contents in the countryside. He or she didn’t care less.
