Litter is unsightly and can harm the environment or cause injury. Fast foods and take-aways make the problem worse as excessive amounts of waste are generated. So next time you’d like a meal, make responsible choices… before, and after, you eat!

Now even nature can enjoy the films we watch. Nature can eat what we do not like, since it is becoming our favourite dustbin. Mother Nature is spoilt with the choices we give her of clothes to wear.

The EcoSchool committee at Gozo College Middle School teamed up with the school council and students’ council and organised a book swap party. Students in Year 7 and Year 8 were encouraged to bring a used book in good condition (not torn, stained, scribbled, etc) and were given a token. Using the token, the students then picked any other book. The aim of this swap party was to reduce litter and save litres of water. Approx 2000 litres of water are used to produce one book imagine how much secret water there is in our bookcases!

Balloon release seems to be a must to mark the opening/closure of an event. Many have been to report how bad a habit this is, especially for marine creatures which end up entangled in the remnants of balloons and strings. The eco-school committee at Gozo College Middle school put forward a solution to stop all this. Why not releasing trained pigeons instead? Just like balloons they go up and come down but without creating any litter or pose a danger to other species.
