Eco-Talks – The Gardening Club at SEC Episode 1

submitted by St Edward's College : Zane Fenech  for 11-14
campaign: YRE Entry
dissemination(s): other, School magazine, school media, website

awarded: Finalist

At St. Edward’s College, the Gardening Club has blossomed into a vibrant initiative uniting students and staff. Originally sparked by teachers’ ideas, the club offers hands-on experiences with plants, from growing vegetables to making olive oil. Led by Miss Wilkinson, Miss Mintoff, and Miss Malani, the club emphasizes sustainability—reusing plastic containers, creating vertical gardens from recyclables, and tackling environmental issues like plastic pollution and climate change. Even composting has been attempted! Open to all, the club welcomes anyone who loves plants, with a flexible, low-pressure approach. Outside regular meetings, students and teachers tend to the plants, even over summer. More than just gardening, the club fosters teamwork, care, and eco-awareness. At its heart, it’s about making St. Edward’s a greener, more mindful place—one plant at a time. LINK – https://youtu.be/ToZOIi9oTtc?si=ndgqIQohOmTm1A-g
