A walk in the countryside reveals that some citizens still have a long way to go or actually learn as regards proper disposal of unwanted items. The opening of civic amenity sites and free pick up of bulky items services do not seem to have been enough. Nature itself seems to be trying to give us a lesson with snails doing their best to camouflage the eyesore, the result of some arrogant citizen who purposely disposed of this sofa in the countryside. Is it so difficult to understand once and for all that preserving the outdoors is one simple way of safeguarding our future?

Murderers get harsh sentences in court yet; slow killing by pollution is neglected. Pollution is causing an increasingly amount of health hazard, leading to many deaths both to humanity but also to wildlife in general. Such causes are due to marine pollution which occurs when harmful chemicals leach from industrial, agricultural and residential waste but moreover from sea transport. In addition, this is causing an increasingly amount of air pollution, especially in regions where there is a lot of trade. We need to take care of our environment in order to be able to safe guard ourselves and the environment.

To dilute means to reduce. That was the aim of the Emission Alert Campaign launched by Transport Malta in August 2005. Public awareness was used as the main source for reporting harmful vehicle emissions, which helped in reducing drastically vehicle emissions. Although, things took a downturn after 2008, this reporting scheme need to be introduced again. This will help citizens play an active role in decreasing air pollution. With a comprehensive pollution prevention program, one would be able to help build a sustainable city.

Which ones would you choose? Don’t judge a book by its cover. Just because the fruit is shiny doesn’t mean it’s healthier.

Although man-made structures are necessary because of the over increasing population, we are taking that little space that nature has left on our tiny island.
