Il-Qabru, which is the native name of the Maltese Freshwater Crab, is an endemic and endangered Freshwater Crab found on the islands of Malta and Gozo. This rare crab is at risk of extinction as it only has two remaining strong populations. The clip shows a public survey about this crab species to have a look at how much the local people know about their national invertebrate. Then an interview with Nature Trust takes place about the threats the crabs face, as well as the breeding programme that they have just started in order to save our National invertebrate, the Maltese Freshwater Crab.

Pollution is no doubt a global issue which must me solved once and for all. Everyday our world is changing and we cannot let our beautiful blue skies turn into unpleasant orange smog which currently exists in some places in our world. This video discusses the actions we all can do to cut down the amount of pollution and ways we can be more sustainable and think more about the environment. There are also images showing how our entire world will look like if nothing is done.

Soil is an essential resource to which many do not give much thought. It can take thousands of years to form and is fundamental, directly and indirectly, to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Unfortunately, in our country, it is increasingly under threat. This video about soil in Malta was produced by Marie Therese Pavia and Aidan Gauci (University of Malta, Ġ.F Abela Junior College) as part of the Young Reporters for the Environment competition 2020. It investigates issues related to local soil so as to raise awareness and knowledge about this vital natural resource. The following is the link of the video:

This video shows students of SMC Senior Secondary School, Verdala, Cospicua, doing an investigation about the large usage of plastics that people consume daily. Students did a vox-pop at the Vittoriosa Street Market where among a couple of questions, participants were encouraged to give their feedback about the usage of plastic bags. An interview was also carried out with the three Mayors of Cospicua, Vittoriosa and Senglea. Although a lot of information was provided to the students, this short video only shows comments about plastic usage and other solutions provided by local councils to reduce plastic consumption. It shows photos of how Malta improved in this regard as long as a lot of people were staying indoors during the partial pandemic lockdown. This video also shows the present reality and it creates awareness of how important and necessary it is to put our efforts and keep up this level of pollution at a lower level. It feels like Malta has become a permanent construction site. From local news it is evident that local councils, NGOs are inundated with complaints by residents about the many inconveniences caused by the construction industry. However, these seem to fall on deaf ears and greedy developers are not only abusing our land but also workers. The information used to create this video was taken from information on a few articles recently published on local newspapers and photographs taken by the author himself. The aim of this video is to show the urgent state of the situation on both the environment and society.. This craze to create iconic exclusive buildings and high-rise developments, makes me question its sustainability and what will my country look like in a few years from now.
