Plastic has negative effects on your health, is extremely slow to decompose in the natural environment, and is environmentally destructive to produce and dispose of. Several of these plastics also end up in the food chains of numerous animals, some of which we eventually eat.

In a society where everything is disposable, we are burying ourselves in plastic without even realising it. When will we realise it? Hopefully it won’t be too late!

On an outing to the Pitkalija, there were many vegetable hawkers selling fresh, local vegetables and fruit. There was a balloon was found flying. It was a blue balloon that belonged to Next, which probably was an advert. The balloon jarred in this environment and showed that pollution unfortunately is everywhere even at the Pitkalija. The title of the caption is an ironic caption to show that this balloon has no place there.

On the 31st January 2023 we went to visit the farmers market, ‘Pitkalija’. We went there to see fresh locally Maltese fruit and vegetables. We want to investigate if local farmers use certified organic practices and if they are support the environment by attempting to minimize waste and pollution. We talked to some farmers and told us about how they take care of their crops. Some uses organic fertilizers to help eliminating the unwanted and harmful contamination. One thing that made us disgusting was how some people throw rubbish like empty plastic bottles on the grass. This can have environmental impact by damaging our soil quality. We were astonished to see a balloon next to the carrots. How come? It was a pity to see these things around the agricultural area. Remember: Don’t forget to bring your own shopping bag to shop local!
