Iż-żibel huwa aktar minn seħta fuq il-pajsaġġ tagħna. Iż-żibel jiswa ħafna biex jitnaddaf. Hija taffettwa s-saħħa u l-benessri tagħna. Jhedded l-ambjent u l-fawna selvaġġa tagħna. Jsib triqtu fil-passaġġi tal-ilma u l-oċeani tagħna. L-għażż u n-nuqqas ta’ ħsieb rawmu kultura ta’ skart abitwali. In-nuqqas ta’ attenzjoni ġegħlet lin-nies jarmu ż-żibel kullimkien mingħajr ma jaħsbu dwar il-konsegwenzi ta’ għemilhom.

In this video, Emma, the Ekoskola president of Sacred Heart College talks about the litter problems in Malta and other countries too. This video shows us the importance of helping our country and planet Earth to become cleaner even with small gestures, such as picking up litter and putting it in the correct bin. It aims to raise awareness among people about how much litter is around us. We filmed it next to our art rooms and garden. Behind Emma is a project made by our art students, they painted these recycled materials to make comfortable seating for our students and teachers. At the end of the video, we understand that the bottle is a metaphor to represent Earth. The bottle is like our earth it looks strong and hard, but if treated badly it can be fragile. Link:

Gone are the days when you could go around Malta and be pleased with all the traditional architecture surrounding you. Sure we still have some buildings and streets which remain traditional but most of the buildings we see today are just high-rises and apartment complexes.

The construction industry in Malta is in high demand. This results in a substantial amount of construction and demolition waste being generated. Presently, this waste is being dumped into unused quarries. Given that the Globigerina limestone is a limited resource and that the building industry accounts for the island’s biggest generation of waste, something must be done to protect the environment.
