For Global Education Week 2017 with the theme ‘My World Depends on us!’ we wanted to think of an idea out of the box. After a brainstorming exercise we came up with the idea of inviting over to our school three former students of Verdala. These three special young men have something in common. They have passed through difficult health problems but now are using their experiences to help others! Amazing actions by people so young!

In this photo one can see a channel for irrigation water which needs to be cleared up of debris. The old rusty water tank at the entrance to the fields is creating visual pollution as well as water pollution. If this channel is cleared up anyone can take a picturesque photo!

In our country maybe more than others water is an invaluable resource and more needs to be done to encourage people to collect water in the most effective way possible. So why do we shoot ourselves in the foot by not maintaining the drainage system already in place? Apart from being an eyesore it defeats the whole purpose of the system.

The short article deals with how an enjoyable walk in the countryside can be ruined with broken signs, RTO and No Entry messages, unleashed dogs, and at time even ‘farmers’ who block the passage of the passers by. Is it really possible that the natural, undeveloped areas of the Maltese islands are private property? If so, why are they recommended as nature walks by the Malta Coastal Walk Book? What action should be taken by the authorities concerned?
