Through this video clip, Yr 6 Primary school students spread an important message regarding sustainability beyond the classroom. They highlight the importance of informing oneself and of nurturing environmentally conscious minds. They give concrete examples of how we can be responsible producers and consumers, taking immediate action for a more sustainable future.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting rid of the masks any time soon. The use of disposable masks has escalated since the appearance of Covid 19. Most of the 8 billion global population are wearing masks. Thinking about the problems created by the dumping of these disposable masks can be saddening to say the least. But there is an alternative. The least we can do is to wear safe, reusable masks and at the same time we would be taking care of the environment! Less trash means a safer environment for us all! Make the swap and save the planet!

Students at Saint Nicholas College Secondary School Ħad-Dingli have been investigating the effect of Covid-19 on the environment. Lockdowns and teleworking may be having some positive impacts on our environment. On the other hand, the use of disposable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has increased in order to ensure safety of health care workers and other frontliners and to reduce transmission of the virus. Disposable face masks, “are the new cigarette butt,” according to the Guardian. And it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting rid of them any time soon. The least we can do is to wear safe, reusable masks and at the same time we would be taking care of the environment! Less trash means a safer environment for us all! Make the swap and save the planet!

Students investigated how plastic is produced and what plastics can be recycled. They corroborated their research with an online survey among the school learning community to assess the knowledge of society in general about plastics and recycling. The ensuing conclusion was that education plays a vital role. Therefore we need to Keep Calm, Keep Learning and Keep Recycling.

Mask my Habitat Captured in the beautiful valley of Wied Qirda was this disposable face mask. The ear loops of the mask had got tangled in the branches of the lush vegetation. A number of organisms were observed crawling around in the mask. It was as though they were making this foreign, pollutant object their new habitat.

San Gwann Primary School has been working for a long time to raise awareness about the environment, separating waste and how to reduce waste. As such, a research was conducted by the Eko Skola Committee with the aim to increase awareness about disposable plastics and reduce its use within the school and local community.
