Various bits and pieces of plastic are ‘lost’ in the sand, and eventually find their way in the sea. Pick at least 5 pieces of rubbish every time you go to the beach, and don’t forget to pick your own!

PVR stands for plastic vs reusables. The reusable cup has a living plant in it whilst the reusable straw has light on it showing that this is the cup and the straw that need to be used. 16 billion disposable coffee cups are used every year. These are coated with plastic to laminate the inside and they have plastic lids which just adds insult to injury!

According to National Geographic, 40% of the plastic that we use is single use and so ends up in our waterways. No one knows exactly how much unrecycled plastic waste ends up in our ocean. Since this percentage of plastic is getting higher and higher, Aquaventure, a dive centre in Mellieha decided to do something about it!

Global warming and pollution are ever-growing problems concerning the whole world including Malta. This issue is mostly due to all the manufacturing of non-reusable plastic, deforestation and vehicles being produced and driven on our roads. Global warming is already having significant and costly effects on our communities, our health, and our climate.

On a daily basis, we buy and use various products. But have you ever thought where, by whom, and under what conditions they were produced? Have you ever wondered if your choice is fair with those who produced that product? And how your choice affected the environment? This video about Fair Trade was produced as part of the Young Reporters for the Environment competition 2019 being produced by Marie Therese Pavia and Aidan Gauci (University of Malta, Ġ.F Abela Junior College). It investigates the issue of Fair Trade in Malta so as to raise awareness and knowledge about this subject.

GCSS Ekoskola students prepared a short video to raise awareness about the harmful practice of double-bagging grocery items. Our students carried out research online about the dangers that single-use plastics pose to our environment and to our planet. After they went to a local greengrocer armed with their mobile phones and asked for some items at the deli counter, educating the server in the process about the wastefulness fo double-bagging shop items. This video was then edited using Movie Maker 10.

Bejn l-Imnajdra u Ħaġar Qim hemm passaġġ iffrekwentat minn Maltin u turisti. Dan il-passaġġ huwa xi ftit perikoluż minħabba li qiegħed f’ livell aktar għoli mil-bqija tal-art tal-madwar, għalhekk huwa faċli li t- tfal jaqgħu fil-ġenb tiegħu kif wieħed jista’ jara fir-ritratt. Nissuġġerixxi li l-ġnub jimtlew bil-ħamrija biex jieħu l-istess livell u fl-istess ħin jistgħu jitħawwlu xi pjanti, b’ hekk ikunu qed isebbħu l-ambjent.
