Shhh … Go Electric !

submitted by Rabat The Archbishop's Seminary : Gregory Maggi  for 11-14

This article starts off on the idea of offshore oil exploration, using seismic waves, that migrate marine species from the area – turtles and dolphins in the Mediterranean. This search for oil implies that as a nation we still hope to find fossil fuels around our island – a source which is phasing out. Use of such fuel is then contrasted to the use of renewable energy sources. The example presented is that for powering electric cars, newly introduced on our roads. These offer a much cleaner fuel alternative if powered by Photovoltaic cells. Not only are electric cars non-polluting if thus powered – with zero carbon footprint – but also noiseless.

Scattered around the hamlets and rural area of Mgarr, Malta, we visited eight of these Giants. Our aim is to let both tourists and Maltese known about these Giants and their importance in the past. At the same time to visit our trail which will be published on a leaflet and donated to the surrounding Local Councils to admire the beautiful landscape found between one Giant and the other!

It considers the fact that disposal of such trash by the sea is important not only for other people to enjoy a clean environment but also to safeguard marine life that could be harmed by this waste if washed out at sea. Consulted research showed that plastic decomposes in a year in the warm sea, contrary to what we might think. Then it could easily be ingested by sea creatures or washed ashore in other places to the detriment of people on that shoreline
