Kontu tafu li aħna wieħed mill-pajjiżi Ewropej li niġġeneraw ammont mhux ħażin ta’ skart? Kull persuna awtomatikament tiġġenera ammont ta’ skart kukjum. Dan l-iskart jintbagħad il-‘landfill’ li din dejjem qed tiżdied. Dan ma jfissirx li mhux qed jiġu implimentati programmi għat-tnaqqis tal-iskart, anzi f’dawn l-aħħar snin il-pajjiż tagħna għamel ħafna kambjanet għall-aħjar f’dan il-qasam. Aħna t-tfal konxji ħafna ta’ dan u ġewwa l-iskola tagħna naħdmu flimkien sabiex dan l-ammont li aħna niġġeneraw nippruvaw innaqsuh. Flimkien matul is-sena nimplimentaw diversi attivitajiet li bihom nkunu nistgħu nagħmlu dan. Dan isir flmkien bħala komunita’ tal-iskola kif ukoll magħna ijipparteċipaw ukoll il-ġenituri tagħna, u xi nies oħra tal-lokal. Dan nagħmluh għaliex dak li nitgħallmu aħna nippruvaw ngħadduh lil ħaddieħor f’azzjonijiet prattiċi ta’ kuljum sabiex inħarsu dejjem aktar l-ambjent ta’ madwarna.

At our school we try to do our best to instill in our students awareness for a better environment. As we believe that the implementation of actions of good practices are a benefit for them to learn how we can protect our trees and our environment so to combat deforestation. By means of the sowing of seeds activity, we enhanced the students’ awareness about the environmental and social importance of forest. For this reason we try to contribute to CO2 emissions and we want to reduce CO2 emissions. Thus we needed to implement educational activities which by means we need to make some changes in the way we live. We believe that these changes are important to be done together as a community as we are sure that small changes make big differences and thus result in great achievements.

As responsible students, to show that we care about ‘Deforestation’ which is the removal of a forest or of various trees, we needed to implement actions regarding ‘Deforestaction’. Thus, our school took the opportunity to be involved in the ‘Plant a Tree for Peace’ activity. Being aware of this global problem, students collected money for eight trees to be planted during this event. Besides this, we joined in some workshops were we had the opportunity to learn and enhance our knowledge about different topics such as: the problems pests like the red palm weevil cause to the environment, how our forefathers used the palm leaves to earn a living, various tips on how it is best to grow oak trees and dwarf fan palms from seeds. All these were followed by an explanation about the type of plants that one can find in the community at the nature park.

These are popular steps leading down to Marsalforn Bay. A can full of used engine oil, was thrown down these steps. Somebody threw it out of the car window to get rid of it without thinking what damage and danger is caused. Instead it can be recycled. It can be extremely dangerous and slippery for people, especially for young children, using the steps to go to the beach. Children may touch the oil. It is hazardous if it comes in contact with their skin or even worse if they touch their face, eyes and mouth. Also, the sight of oil on the steps is a great throwback to tourists and locals. This is a huge eyesore. Our economy greatly depends on the tourist industry. The oil together with the rubbish thrown away carelessly make the area look shabby and unwelcoming, besides being of great danger to people and the surrounding environment.
