Our President, Cara Borg Aquilina, was nominated by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ as a youth representative for the Youth and Climate Action Conference coordinated by the Ministry for European & Foreign Affairs with Hon. Evarist Bartolo, Minister for the Environment, Climate Change & Planning Hon. Aaron Farrugia, British High Commissioner H. E Katherine Ward, Ambassador of Italy H.E Fabrizio Romano, Mr. Graham Blight and moderator Prof. Simone Borg present. Green Team Climate Clean ups

SAC Green Team recognises the interrelation of littering and climate change and acknowledges the need for public awareness through practical action. Through a series of summer clean ups by beaches and in parks, SAC Green Team offered clean ups to students as part of their Social Responsibility Programme as well as to the general public by teaming up with the Swieqi Local Council (President Cara Borg Aquilina also being the Swieqi Local Council Youth Ambassador) and de-littering the community garbage bag by garbage bag.

With international legalisation being paramount to the efficacy of environmental conservation, Green Team sought to inform students of COP26, providing a campaign clip to heighten knowledge of the Conference before it was held on Sunday, 31 October.

Philosophy can orient us to the new reality brought on by the climate crisis. If we understand the climate crisis as a deeply existential one, it can help to examine the way past philosophers responded to similar crises in their times.

“Globally, the use of energy represents by far the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions from human activities. About two thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions are linked to burning fossil fuels for energy to be used for heating, electricity, transport and industry” – With energy being so significantly interwoven with the climate crisis, how is the burning of finite fossil fuels still permissible? What renewable alternatives can countries adopt instead?
