The purpose of pesticides is to kill harmful insects but it is not killing only harmful insects, it is killing good insects like the ladybug too. Some harmful pests like the common snail are now becoming immune to pesticides too. Nitrates from pesticides are also contaminating our water table and therefore affecting us directly through the water we drink. Instead of pesticides people can use natural deterrents like petroleum or vinegar in a bottle hanging from a tree. Instead of artificial nutrients, farmers can use farmyard manure.

Dotted around the Gozitan coastline one can see many towers built for the island s coastal defenses. One such tower is Nadur`s famous tower, Torre Nuova, locally known as Ta` Sopu. It lies perfectly framed by idyllic views of our island’s countryside and the dreamy inlet Daħlet Qorrot which nestles on the right…Will this panoramic view of the sea and land change in 20 years’ time?… And if yes, will it be for the better or worse? What type of developments would have taken place?… Are existing laws capable of protecting this intrinsic beauty of our heritage?

* One may come across these bins in the fishing village of Marsaxlokk. * The brown bins are used for dispensing with glass objects but since some people are yet unknowledgeable about their use, they threw a box made of paper. * Others did manage to get rid of glass objects appropriately. However, it should be noted that most people are still unaware of which rubbish to dispense with in which bin. A leaflet providing due info would be convenient. * Ideally, the person/s in charge of unloading the rubbish should come around at least twice a week since the bins are overloaded.

* The picture was shot in one of the most idylic spots in Marsaxlokk between Tas-Silg and Delimara. * A car seat looms in the background, courtesy of a mechanic who puts shop nearby. * To minimize and ideally prevent such abuse, setting up CCTV cameras would come in handy. Ideally, the mayor would be notified and a fine would be sent to the offender/s.

* This car carcass is what is left after some people stripped it off its parts after it was left there. * To prevent accidents such as conflagrations it would be good idea to dispose of a tow truck service so as to get rid of such eye sores.

* Unfortuantely, rules are made to be broken. This is just another example. Trash is left out either prior to the trash man’s arrival or much later!Consequently, it will be later visited by a pack of stray animals, notably cats and one can only imagine its aftermath….

* Health and Safety precautions. This license plate rather worn out at its edges and completely battered has definitely experienced much better moments. Its jagged edges providing an ideal tool or toy for some youngsters who may be fooling around, brandishing it wildly…….

* This bin is heavily pregnant with rubbish. Apparently, the trash service seems to have missed out on its routine collection allowing residents the privelege of a rat invasion not to mention the festering smell……

If doubtful about the next move, do not opt for pollution…..

* Trash bag shouldn’t be dispensed with, outdoors next to a bin for obvious reasons.

This place is in Fgura. In this picture we can see the rubbish not thrown in its appropriate place. This is a private property without anybody bothering to look after it.If we take a good look at this picture we can see a yellow torn poster write on it “Do not throw rubbish here” and who will throw rubbish here will be heavily penalised. But how much do people bother to notice it?In that locality people throw away their rubbish during the night not to be seen by anybody so that infront of their door will remain clean. This rubbish remains there up to the following morning.Later at night the rats and cats come out and make a feast with all that rubbish and leave a mess behind the doors.Anybody who notices someone throwing rubbish outside is duty bound to make a report to the people concerned.
