As part of the YRE Litter Less Campaign San Gorg Preca Secondary School EkoSkola Committee came up with this initiative to produce shopping bags from old to-be-thrown away t-shirts. This was all possible thanks to the help of various teachers and LSAs too who participated in the in-house workshop with our students and also, at the Day Care Centre in Hamrun. Thus, the committee’s campaign was widespread to reach the community too.

The small village of Fontana lies on the outskirts of Victoria, also known as Rabat in Gozo. It became the ideal site for a settlement due to a number of fresh water springs in the area. Malta ranks in the top ten water scarce countries in the world and groundwater is one of the main sources of fresh water. It is such a pity that this precious water flowing generously in this settlement is no longer potable.

Our school has come up with the initiative to promote less plastic usage among Bikrkirkara market users. This initiative was named Operation BOB, where BOB stands for Bring Own Bag. On a Wednesday morning, the EkoSkola committee visited the local market, distributed these bags and also created awareness about the harmful effects plastic is leaving behind.
